我ㄧ次看到Yuri Pleskun時是這張照片，只知道這是個新人而且爆紅了，更重要的是我對這張照片根本是一見鍾情，迷上Yuri後，才知道這是他。
除了天生魅力，外表令人著迷的地方也很多，我全部都喜歡啦

雖然他說他沒在重視穿著，現在也開始在學習。但我必須說，他的穿衣風格很棒，他的大衣、毛帽等也是個會打扮的人啊！而且男生其實只要一件t-shirt配上牛仔褲就夠了，越簡單越好。
他抽菸好像都用火柴(當然這可能是拍攝要求，未證實)，上面這個影片和"Yuri Pleskun "WHEN I SHINE" 未收錄"裡，他都使用火柴點菸。聽說用火柴點菸味到不一樣，有一種香味，火柴在燃燒時能產生碳，還有未完全燃燒的亞磷。這些交織在一起就產生所謂的燃燒香味。打火機的氣味不如火柴。有人愛火柴點燃的瞬間，在黑暗中的一絲光芒，溫暖人心。

“Shine” is Yuri Pleskun’s nickname inked on his left arm in red and black letters. It was anointed in the streets of Co-op City where the fair-skinned kid stood out long before becoming a male model. Recall the dark-eyed, cloth-clad figure behind Gisele in Balenciaga’s Spring 2011 campaign. That was Pleskuns, er, Shine. Campaign aside, he has quite the oeuvre (from Italian Vogue to the runway at Rick Owens) for a twenty-one-year old discovered three years ago on the two train headed back to the Bronx.
When I meet Yuri, he is wearing a grey t-shirt, black jeans and Nike Dunks. A silver cigarette hangs around his neck and square diamonds sparkle in each of his ears (“twenty dollars on Delancey Street”). His sister’s name, “Lena,” is tattooed on his right arm. She now lives in Westchester, but the two grew up together in Co-op City, the children of Ukranian immigrants. Pleskuns still lives there where he takes care of his grandfather. We’re on our way to East Village restaurant Veselka to pick up authentic Ukranian fare after a day of shooting. He likes pelmini and potato vareniki, a sort of dumpling also known as pierogies. This is where Pleskuns goes when his grandmother’s in town from New Jersey, a sort of throwback to old times.
“Being a kid is tough, everyone knows that; everyone has some rough issues,” Pleskun says of growing up. Before finding his way to fashion, he worked at Burger King, as a carpenter and a school janitor. He shows me his license from the New York Board of Ed, pointing out the title description, which reads simply, “Clean.” Post-janitorial work, it was on to the more dangerous métier of window washer (he once polished the entire exterior of the downtown W hotel). “Pretty scary, but beautiful,” is how Pleskuns describes the dangers of this last gig before he was discovered as a model. He’d never paid much attention to clothes (“we heard the brands in rap songs”) but he decided to give it a go despite being self-described camera shy.
Pleskun’s first big purchase happened only recently, a suit from “some super classy British designer” and YSL black patent leather tap dancing shoes. His prize piece is a big Dunhill sheepskin coat given to him by Kim Jones. Still, he usually goes for the jeans, Dunks and leaves the rest to character. “People respect you by your aura,” he says.
Where do you go from here? Pleskun’s references a television show he’s just watched about mogul Richard Branson. “I want to be able to be on a beach and make money by smiling.”

Bronx Boy and Model Yuri Pleskun Can't Keep Out of Trouble
Since he was scouted in the wee hours of the morning in 2008, Yuri Pleskun(Re:quest Models) hasn't done too badly for a skinny 19-year-old kid from the Bronx. He comes out of a line of young, punky models that includes Cole Mohr and Luke Worrall—models with ambitious, irreverent personalities that seem primed for a one-liner on a flipcam phone as much as for a runway show.
Pleskun's trajectory began when he was chosen by TopShop to sport a brightly-printed polo in their Spring 09 ads; and he was shot perched on barbells and sprawled on a bed in Marc by Marc's Fall 09 looks. The latter, shot of course by Juergen Teller, would prove the beginning of a beautiful collaboration that found its peak, to date, in Pleskun getting almost a full issue of photos in Self Service. Now working the catwalks for men's fashion weeks worldwide, a homesick Yuri from the block phones us from Paris to tell us about commercial bull****, the drunk chick who started his career, and an un-model0-like affinity for cheap chicken wings.

How was Milan?
YURI PLESKUN:
It was all right. I'm in Paris now. I walked in Fujiwara and Frankie Morello.

It's definitely fun. I get to have a lot of free time. And I'm gonna get to meet some of my friends while I'm out here.
ZARRELLA:
But you grew up in the Bronx, right? Which must be different from the modeling circuit!
PLESKUN:
Yeah. I guess I was kind of a bad kid. I was like, getting kicked out of high school and all that bull****. I never went. I always had a lot of problems in high school with the police and all that stuff. Fighting.
ZARRELLA:
So what do your childhood friends think of your newfound career?
PLESKUN:
At first they thought I was really gay. But now they actually see that it's doing something for me so they're proud of me. They support me.

So the friends you are meeting in Paris, are these buddies from home or model friends?
PLESKUN:
Model friends. I don't hang out with a bunch of them but there are a certain few people who I enjoy being with.

What do you kids do when you're not stomping the catwalk?

Yeah, of course! Kennedy's Fried Chicken makes the best ones in New York. They have the cheapest chicken wings and the best chicken wings.

What have you been eating over in Milan and Paris? Have they been accommodating you?
PLESKUN:
I've been eating cold cuts. My friend actually introduced me to cold cuts as a way to save money. But I found a little chicken spot out here today so I had to get those.

So how did you get into modeling?
PLESKUN:
I got scouted at three o'clock in the morning by some drunk chick. She came up to me in the street and she just started harassing me about modeling and I was just like, "whatever." But she ended up calling me the next day and now I'm in Paris for the third time.

And do you think modeling has helped your luck with the ladies?
PLESKUN:
I don't know if I should answer that question.

I actually just have two, the ones on my arms. I got them both when I was about 14. The left one means "shine" because I stick out like a sore thumb where I live. I'm the only white boy there.

What kind of music are you into?

I heard you were doing a shoot for i-D and Lenz Johnston broke your nose.
PLESKUN:
Well, he didn't exactly break my nose. He smashed me with a pipe. It was by accident though. The photographer set us up with metal pipes and we were breaking mirrors in the middle of the floor. He positioned Lenz in front of me with his back turned towards me and he swung back and the pipe just kind of grazed my face and it cut my nose and my eyebrow so I had to be rushed to the hospital.

First up, because he says things like this: "It was... an honor to work with Juergen Teller, especially because he chose to shoot in my apartment. And, no [Marc Jacobs wasn't there], I believe Marc Jacobs had more important things to do than getting robbed in the Bronx."
And, secondly. New Zealand is quite an isolated country. We're way down the bottom of the South Pacific Ocean, close to Australia and a couple of Pacific Islands, but pretty far away from the majority of the world. The closest we get to America and Europe comes from watching TV shows like Friends, The Simpsons and Coronation Street, and from music and films. Because most of our contact with (and knowledge of) Americans and Europeans comes from TV, film and music, I find that we often have quite typecast, stereotypical ideas of what people are going to be like.
Obviously I can't speak for everybody, but I'm sure I'm not alone here.
For example - the snobby, moustache twirling French waiter; the surly Russian; the passionate Italian; the street smart New York kid.
The first time I met Yuri Pleskun, he exemplified the latter. He strutted into this bar La Perle in Paris, sat down next to a whole bunch of models and started talking in the most extreme Bronx accent you've ever heard. "Yo, what up kid?" I asked him where he was from. "I'm from Boogie-down Noo Yawk(紐約，各地方不同的口音), son." It was like sitting next to a cast member from Kids. Or Leonardo DiCaprio in The Basketball Diaries.
To his fellow Americans in attendance, this was probably no more exciting than going to clear the mailbox. But for me, it was literally like having a movie played out in front of my eyes. Hilarious and entertaining all at the same time.
And besides what he looks like, I'd say that's one of the reasons for his success as a model. He epitomises this movie character stereotype that you very rarely encounter in real life.
Oh, and also because he says things like this: "It was like getting my teeth pulled out…through a straw." In response to a question about how he enjoyed New York Fashion Week.

來解說一下Yuri後來的新刺青，就是Charlie Westerberg幫他刺的"M.O.B"是Money Over Bitches!的意思，意思是"金錢勝過女人"(這裡的"Bitches"並不是髒話)。也就是說金錢和女人要做選擇的話，會選擇金錢。麵包與愛情。
這時候身為金牛座的我又要來解釋為何?
一般人會說金牛座很重視金錢，其實不。而是金錢能給我們安全感，才有抓住的感覺。像我一直認為"錢乃身外之物"，我一點也不在乎。我甚至很討厭碰到錢(潔癖)。但是我們常在金錢上衡量，省錢，不會輕易的花錢，但如果是很喜歡的東西就會花的不手軟，因為很愛享受(美好的事物)，年紀越大越發現"不要錯過不然會後悔"，但我們也是屬於那種會來回跑那家店考慮要不要買的人。後面這點就扯到物質，我們重物質但物質欲其實很低，因為缺乏安全感，金錢和物質才能給我們安全，會一直想賺錢(或是在意工作上)，雖然錢不是萬能的，但沒錢什麼也不是(雖然我不是這個意思，但這好複雜。相信有人能理解)。所以才會說叫金牛座選擇麵包與愛情時，通常會選擇麵包(得有基本生存能力才能顧及其他。選擇麵包的原因下面可以解釋)。
金牛座：
人人眼中死愛錢兼勢利眼的金牛座，其實對於自身的工作事業非常的重視，會希望別人非常尊重其專業能力，絕對不能干預這方面 的自由發展，儘管平時強調工作的效率和努力，巴不得用過勞死去換鈔票，但那都只限上班的時候，一旦下班或自己的私人時間是誰也不能把他叫回辦公室的，因為 公歸公，私歸私，沒有自己的時間又怎麼享受工作成果呢！(Yuri就是公歸公，私歸私)
金牛座的人放得下身段，因為會面對現實，不像其他人還在哀嘆，金牛座已經看破這一切，反正賺到錢最重要，如果家裡需要的是錢，老婆也整天期盼着自己日進斗金，那就不惜一切代價找到淘金的門路，他會覺得實力的直接體現就是金錢，所以這些人腳踏實地，而且一步一個腳印，他不怕累、不怕苦，又很有理財的概念，一 個不小心中獎了就是個大企業家。只要金牛們找到了能和自己窮富與共的另一半，他們就會很有動力去拼命地淘金。
